The value of Stop Motion animation
Stop motion techniques have been used in films dating back as far as 1898, being the only way of achieving certain effects until the introduction of CGI in the 1960s. In the original King Kong (1933) stop motion was used along with real special effects to create King Kong himself, as the digital technologies we see today in films didn't exist. Whilst the effects don't stand up to the realistic CGI seen in the more recent King Kong (2005) there is more of a sense of authenticity in the original film which perhaps can't be seen as much in today's films.
